Get started

1. Open Library Sync.

   Choose Mixo Player Settings… Library Sync, or press ⌘,.

2. Add a folder.

   Choose Add Folder and select a music folder on a local or external drive.

3. Sync the library.

   Click Sync Now to scan the selected folders. Adding a folder alone does not start a scan.

The scanner recognizes MP3, FLAC, M4A, and WAV files. It reads metadata and available artwork from the files. Library Sync is manual, so use Sync Now after changing music files or folders.

Keep external drives mounted when syncing. Tracks that are no longer found in monitored folders can be removed from the app’s library. Removing a monitored folder removes its tracks from the library, not the original audio files.

Browse the library

Use the sidebar to move between the main views of your local collection.

Songs

The song table for the library.

Album Artists

A searchable list of album artists. Select one to filter the songs.

Albums

A searchable list of albums. Select one to filter the songs.

Covers

An album-art gallery.

Genres

A searchable list of genres. Select one to filter the songs.

Years

A searchable list of years. Select one to filter the songs.

Favorites

Songs marked as favorites.

Playlists

All playlists and an expandable list of individual playlists.

Sidebar counts show how many items are available. Album Artists, Albums, Genres, and Years each have their own search field and clear control.

Covers

Choose Small, Medium, or Large to change cover size. Albums can be grouped, and the gallery supports Album Artist, Album, and Year sorting. Selecting an album navigates to its first song in the full song list. The right sidebar shows album artwork, related albums, and a Lyrics control.

Song table

Double-click a song to play it. The column menu lets you show or hide playback status, favorite status, track number, title, artist, album artist, album, year, genre, disc, and duration.

Search & navigation

• The top search field searches the current view.
• Use its embedded menu to search by Title, Album Artist, or Album. The clear control removes entered text.
• Use the Album Artist, Album, and Year labels to sort. Click the active label again to reverse direction.
• Album-artist and album values in the song table can also be used as filters.
• The Back and Forward controls return through navigation history.

Playback

The playback area provides shuffle, previous, play/pause, next, and repeat controls. Repeat supports off, one song, or all songs, and the player also includes a seek bar and time display.

• Choose a volume level, audio output device, or available AirPlay route.
• Use the Mini Player and Equalizer controls from the playback area.
• Track format, bit depth, and bitrate appear when available.
• Mixo Player supports macOS media controls and Now Playing information.

The Mini Player keeps compact playback controls available in a separate window. Use its return control, or choose View Mini Player, to switch views.

Favorites

• Mark songs as favorites from the song table or playback controls.
• Open Favorites in the sidebar to see only favorite tracks.
• Favorites can be sorted and use the same track actions as the main library.
• Favorites support M3U and M3U8 import and export.

Playlists

• Choose File New Playlist to create a playlist.
• Individual playlists appear beneath the expandable Playlists item.
• Add songs through the song table’s contextual menu.
• A playlist’s contextual menu offers Rename, Import M3U…, Export M3U…, and Delete.
• Playlist appearance can use an emoji and selected background color.

M3U and M3U8 imports match entries against songs already in the local library; importing a playlist does not import audio files. Exports use extended M3U format with paths to the songs.

Edit song information

Use Edit Metadata from a song’s contextual menu to change the title, artist, album artist, album, genre, year, track and disc numbers, or artwork.

• Edit multiple selected songs together.
• Search MusicBrainz for album artwork from the editor.
• Saving metadata updates the audio files and the library’s stored information.

Lyrics

Open Lyrics in the right sidebar for the playing song. Mixo Player looks up lyrics through LRCLIB.

• Time-synchronized lyrics highlight and scroll with playback.
• Plain lyrics display as scrollable text.
• Retrieved lyrics are cached for offline reopening.
• Settings Lyrics Download Lyrics can fetch lyrics for the library, with progress and cancellation.
• Songs with saved lyrics or a previously confirmed unavailable result are skipped.

Equalizer & ReplayGain

Equalizer

Open the Equalizer from the playback controls or View Equalizer. It includes an enable switch, ten configurable bands, a built-in Flat preset, and savable custom presets.

Band types include Peak, Low Shelf, High Shelf, Low Pass, High Pass, Band Pass, and Notch. Controls provide frequency, Q, and—where applicable—gain. Gain and manual preamp trim use 0.5 dB steps. Preamp trim can be automatic or manual, and a limiter protects against clipping while EQ is enabled.

ReplayGain

Settings ReplayGain adjusts playback loudness from ReplayGain tags embedded in audio files. Track mode normalizes songs individually; Album mode preserves loudness differences within an album.

ReplayGain includes a preamp control for an offset. Mixo Player reads existing ReplayGain tags; it does not calculate them, and untagged files receive no ReplayGain adjustment.

Settings

Open Mixo Player Settings… or press ⌘,.

General

View local database information and reset imported tracks and saved playlists. Resetting the database does not delete original audio files.

Appearance

Follow the macOS system appearance or choose Light or Dark.

Library Sync

Add or remove monitored folders, review sync status, and run a manual Sync Now scan.

Lyrics

Download lyrics for the library and monitor or cancel the download.

ReplayGain

Enable ReplayGain, choose Track or Album mode, and set preamp.

Activation

View trial or license status and enter a license key.

Library metadata is stored locally at ~/Library/Application Support/mixo.player/tracks.sqlite
